Shipping

Julia Woodward Antykwariat specialises in the sale of rare books, manuscripts, autographs, prints, maps, and other historical material. Shipping arrangements are therefore made individually for each purchase.

Shipping destinations

Although many items can be shipped internationally, not every item can legally be exported.

Depending on the item’s:

  • age,

  • value,

  • country of origin,

  • cultural significance,

  • legal status,

  • export licencing requirements,

  • insurance availability, and

  • destination country,

an item may be available only:

  • within Poland,

  • within the European Union,

  • to selected countries,

  • or worldwide.

Where an export licence, cultural-property authorisation, import permit, or other official approval is required, shipment will only take place after all necessary permissions have been obtained.

If an item cannot legally be exported to your country, we will inform you before any contract is concluded. Due to these legal obligations, a sale contract can only be considered to be valid once legal confirmation of the possibility of purchase is verified in accordance with applicable cultural heritage law.

Shipping methods

All shipments are packed using materials appropriate to the age, condition, and value of the item.

Where available, shipments are sent using tracked and insured services.

High-value, fragile, rare, or unique items may require:

  • specialist packing,

  • signature on delivery,

  • identity verification,

  • specialist courier services,

  • personal collection, or

  • another secure delivery arrangement.

Shipping costs are calculated individually according to the destination, value, dimensions, insurance requirements, and method of transport.

Customs and import charges

International purchasers are responsible for any import VAT, customs duties, clearance fees, brokerage charges, taxes, or similar charges imposed by the destination country unless otherwise agreed.

Commercial invoices and customs declarations will always accurately state the nature and value of the goods. We cannot under-declare values or mark commercial purchases as gifts.

Returns

We want every purchaser to buy with confidence.

If you believe an item has been materially misdescribed, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can assist.

Consumers purchasing under applicable Polish or European Union consumer legislation may have a statutory right to withdraw from certain distance contracts within 14 days of receiving the item.

Business, trade, institutional, and professional purchasers do not generally benefit from these statutory withdrawal rights.

Because the items offered are often rare, unique, fragile, or of significant cultural or historical value, purchasers are requested to contact us before returning any item so that appropriate return arrangements can be agreed.

Returns should always be securely packed and sent using a suitable tracked service appropriate for the value and nature of the item.

Export-Control Returns

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, the Purchaser shall be solely responsible for obtaining every export licence, re-export permit, customs authorisation, cultural-property approval or other governmental permission required under the law of the country from which the Item is being returned.

The Purchaser shall bear the direct costs of obtaining such authorisations and of arranging secure, insured and appropriately tracked return transport, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

The Item must not be exported or dispatched in breach of any applicable law.

For the purposes of these Terms and Conditions, evidence of return shall mean evidence of lawful dispatch.

Where applicable law permits Julia Woodward to withhold reimbursement until receipt of the Item or evidence of its dispatch, reimbursement may continue to be withheld until the Item has been lawfully returned or lawfully dispatched in accordance with all applicable export, customs and cultural-property legislation.
